Global Crossfire Mission – The meaning of our name.
The name Global Crossfire Mission (GCM or Crossfire) is God–given and prophetically discerned by the Mission founders. The three words are:
Global
(Geographical) – across national boundaries, embracing many ethnicities, races and tongues. Global defines and describes the scope and space covered by the Mission and also describes the platform of Mission activities.
Crossfire
This does not mean caught in the crossfire between God and Satan.
Crossfire is made up of the two words – cross and fire. In our logo we have the cross superimposed on the fire and presented as two distinct concepts: There are three main meanings of Crossfire and here, we would like to provide you in the simplest manner the meanings, while reserving a more exhaustive biblical support in another paper.
Consequential aspects
By the power of the work done by Jesus Christ on the cross, mankind will be saved from a hellish lifestyle here on earth. When a person believes in the finished work of Christ on the cross, (thus believing and confessing the Lord Jesus as their personal Saviour) he, or she, can benefit from the currency of graces that accrue immediately to believers.
As it is written, ‘He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed’ 1 Peter 2:24, Colossians 2:9-15
Access to heaven in eternity
The earth has been reserved for destruction by fire, and the unbelievers are destined for Hell (2 Peter 3:8,10). Through the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross, the cross serves as a ladder or bridge over the claim of hell fire on anyone who passes into eternity. Those who believe in the work of the cross are saved from Hell, whereas those who do not believe will fall into it. (1 Thess 1:7-9, Jude 22-3)
Means and message of salvation to unbelievers
We preach the ‘Cross’ to bring people to a saving knowledge of Christ (1 Cor 1:23). The message of the cross is the key that accesses and unlocks the minds and hearts of people to have faith in God. We preach the message of the ‘Cross’ and ‘Fire’ to unbelievers and, once they come to believe and confess Jesus as their Lord and are saved, people are helped to identify their God –given gifts, ministries and calling as they grow and serve the Lord Jesus Christ.
The concept of the cross is not limited to the death of Jesus. It served as the path to the grave, the resurrection and the glorification of Jesus. It is also an intricate and close related concept and package for the believer.
As Peter said In Acts 2:22, ‘… Listen to this, Jesus of Nazareth, a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs … This man was handed over to you by God’s set purpose and foreknowledge … But God raised Him from the dead, freeing Him from the agony of death because it was impossible for death to keep hold on Him. God has raised Jesus to life and we are all witnesses of the fact.
Mission
An assigned purposeful goal or objective. Mission is defined as:
- an inner calling to pursue an activity, perform a service or a vocation;
- a series of special Christian services to proselytize,
- to organise or establish a religious mission
- a body of persons sent to a foreign land by a religious organization, especially a Christian organisation, to spread its’ faith or to provide educational, medical and other assistance.
According to the Bible, Christ is the head of the Church (Eph. 5:23). As the Head, He has set up and designed the Church in such a way that He would be able to effectively communicate His wishes and mandate to His people. CROSSFIRE CHURCH acknowledges and confesses Jesus Christ as the Head of this church and the ultimate One to set out its vision, mission, goals, and boundaries.
